Portfolio — and more!

Here are examples of different projects I have worked on in my classes, internships, and as president of Pitt’s Student Chapter of the ALA (SCALA).

Grant Proposal
This is a hypothetical grant proposal I co-wrote for Managing Libraries and Information Systems & Services. It is based on an actual program for which I volunteer at the Squirrel Hill branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh but is a theoretical expansion of the program. This file is a PDF.

Sample Dublin Core Records in Greenstone
During the course of a Metadata class, I’ve gained skills in metadata creation and using content management systems.  This PDF file shows screen captures of Dublin Core records which I created using Greenstone, an open-source software program for building digital library collections.

Individual Instruction
Jing SocioFile instructional video
In this assignment, from a Reference Resources & Services class, we were to show the basics of using a given database  to answer a reference question. Our response was to be formatted as an e-mail “Ask-a-Librarian” answer with an accompanying instructional Jing screen-cast.  The videos had to be 2 minutes or less.  The first link is to a PDF of my e-mail response and the second link is to the Jing video.

Duquesne Electronic Resources Marketing Plan
I was a co-team leader for a project for Duquesne University’s Gumberg Library through my Marketing & Public Relations for Libraries class.  They are seeking to promote greater awareness and use of their electronic resources, and my team crafted strategies to market them to the student population.  The link above is for a PDF of the marketing plan written by the other team leaders and myself and was submitted to the librarians at Gumberg Library.

Work and Internships

Roaming Reference Sign
This sign advertises a “Roaming Reference” service in Forbes Hall, the freshman engineering living community, where I provided reference and research assistance in their study lounge once a week for a portion of the Spring 2012 semester.  This was done through my Pitt Partnership/internship at the Bevier Engineering Library at the University of Pittsburgh.  This link goes to a PDF file.

Health Systems Engineering Program LibGuide
This is a LibGuide I created for the Health Systems Engineering Program, also while working as a Pitt Partner at the Bevier Engineering Library.

WWPWVC ACRL Spring Conference 2012 program
Knowledge Base poster session
I co-presented a poster session at the Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia Chapter of the ACRL’s spring conference in June 2012. Our topic was the Knowledge Base of the University Library System at the University of Pittsburgh.  For this poster, I formatted and added articles to the Knowledge Base, collaborated with the two librarians whose idea this was, and designed the poster.  The program and poster are linked above as PDFs.

Pitt Student Chapter of the ALA (SCALA)

Edible Books poster
As President of SCALA, I had the chance to plan and organize various events, whether on my own or jointly with the executive board.  Along with the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh (CLP), we hosted an Edible Book Festival event, where participants used food to create representations of their favorite books!  The event raised money for Book ‘Em, a local non-profit that sends books to prisoners, and we partnered with CLP LYNCS to host it in the Pittsburgh Public Market.  The link goes to a PDF file of the poster advertising the Edible Book Festival.

SCALA Donation Solicitation letter
This is the letter I wrote to the vendors in the Pittsburgh Public Market to solicit donations for prize baskets for the Edible Book Festival.
